Chaos Space Marines: Another Maulerfiend

So today I finished the second Maulerfiend for the Chaos commission that I'm currently working on. The project is now almost finished, and the end is in sight!

This guy was basically painted the same as the last one, but that's okay - I still really like this colour scheme! It suits the model very nicely.

The lasher-tendrils (whips?) are removable for storage and/or transport. Fully assembled, this is a wide and very impressive model.

So what's next? I'm hoping to start the final Chaos squad this week - a squad of Raptors.

Knight Models: Batman v Superman Batman

So I painted up some more Knight Models miniatures just after Christmas, and today got the chance to photo the finished product. I've now done several of versions of Batman, but this is by far my favourite!

This is a typical KM sculpt in some ways - really good detail level, decently proportion and full of character. But this version of Batman is a little different: he's wearing the batsuit featured in Batman v Superman, which makes him much chunkier than some other versions of the miniature.

I'll probably do a size comparison picture at some point, because this Batman is quite a bit bigger than many other KM figures. I like him a lot. As ever, his cape is awesomely detailed and flows really nicely.

Chaos Space Marines: Maulerfiend

Another model from the Chaos Space Marines commission I'm painting at the moment: a Maulerfiend!

I had to take these photos in poor light, so they don't really do the model justice. It has a really nice, deep red colour on the armour plates, and the metallics really scream. The brass edging is done with a nasty silver chipping around the sharper points; as though this is an old Maulerfiend, really battered...

Another view of the tendril-things (I don't play Chaos!).

Another view of the rear of the model...

More shots of detail work...

Next up: another Maulerfiend!

Chaos Space Marines: Helbrute

Some more progress on the Chaos commission I'm doing: today I finished the Helbrute, together with several magnetised weapon options.

View of the back...

Side view: showing the tarnished metal of the heavy flamer...

And another view...

And a final shot of the Helbrute together with its many weapon options. I've also got the paint up another weapon option (a tendril-arm thing? I'm no Chaos player!), which I'll be doing this week.

Next up will be a Maulerfiend!

Stormcast Eternals: Lord-Celestant on Stardrake

So this has been a pretty slow painting week. I'm gearing up to paint the next model in the Chaos Space Marine commission that I've been painting, but progress has not been as fast as I'd like. As a result, today's post is one of my own models that I finished over the Christmas break: a Lord-Celestant riding a Stardrake!

Got to say, this miniature was a lot of work but it was definitely worth it. It occupied most of my painting time for about a month, which is unusual for me.

I know that GW has been criticised for the pose of this model, but I think it's pretty great actually. The head and neck have some nice dynamism, and the wing pose means that the model is at least transportable....

Here's a shot of the rider. I spent less time on him than the dragon, simply because that's the real focus of this piece. Still, he looks quite impressive with his massive warhammer, riding into battle.

The wings are where the real time went. I broke out my Aztec airbrush, and sprayed them in successive thin coats, creating smith graduations between Khorne Red, Evil Sunz Scarlet, Fire Dragon Bright, and then Yriel Yellow. I then applied thinned Nuln Oil across the membranes. It was a lot of work, but I think that it was worth it.

I used the standard Stormcast recipe for the gold: Retributor Armour, then a wash of Reikland Fleshshade, then Auric Gold, Liberator Gold, and finally Stormhost Silver.

Here's another shot of the finished Stardrake...

... and some more Chaos Raptors!

Just managed to finish off a few more Chaos Space Marine Raptors, bringing the new total to 15 models. I've still got to do another 5, but I'm leaving these until later. Painting up the same unit so many times really leads to painting burn out!

Note that the squad leaders are magnetised, and have a full range of weaponry. The second sergeant also has no backpack at this stage - that has been left off for my client to magnetise.

Next up will be some more Chaos: likely to start with a Hellbrute, then two Maulerfiends...

Some more Chaos Space Marine Raptors

Another week, another squad of Chaos Space Marines! Alright, four models is not quite a squad, but you get the idea...

These were again done in the same colour scheme as my client's army, and will be part of a larger assault force. I have 20 Raptors overall to paint, and with these the completed total now sits at eight: not too many to go!

Currently sitting in the undercoating booth are the next four models. These will be special weapons for the unit.
